Hello

It's nice to meet you. My name is Ethan Menzel, and I'm a 25-year-old nature photographer. I'm glad that you've stumbled across my site! Below, you'll learn more about me through my story. The image you see is of me holding a couple of banded blue-winged teal before their release. These beautiful birds were handled for research purposes with the proper permits and utmost respect.

My Story

For as long as I can remember, I have been passionate about wildlife and spending time outdoors. I grew up in Central Texas, where my parents gifted me a camera when I was thirteen years old. My photography journey started with small adventures in my backyard, taking photos of lizards, songbirds, and other critters. As my skills grew, so did my opportunities and understanding of animal behavior. I found it fascinating to apply my learned experiences in capturing split-second moments of the lives of incredible wildlife and stunning landscapes.

My parents purchased my first "professional-grade" camera for me in high school. After high school, I pursued an education in biology, forestry, and wildlife management at Stephen F. Austin State University in East Texas. While in college, my professors and colleagues often placed me as the "designated photographer" for fieldwork, research projects, and volunteer events. This allowed me to further increase my skills, travel to new ecosystems, and capture even more unique species and scenarios. For me, photography is more than simply taking pictures; it’s about storytelling, adventure, and connecting with others over the beauty of our planet.

Since finishing my higher education, I have travelled across several areas of the United States, from Wyoming to Louisiana. I am currently based in Taos, New Mexico and am enjoying the beauty of the Southern Rocky Mountains.
